Details:
So I was walking home one day after two months into my final semester of college. I was taking a ballet class just for kicks, working on balance and posture. Those months were rather tumultuous, and I was listening to Cat Stevens all the time like crazy. That particular day, slogging through Minnesota slush and snow, I started singing "Moonshadow" and it was like, who is singing? My voice had moved into a stronger part of me.
Shortly after, I started writing songs. It has been over three years now since that first one, and billboard in this faint little light is a collection of mostly beginnings. You canât imagine how terribly excited I was when a friend of mine needed a songwriter to record. Together we took these first songs with a few others and made them into what I call quite a mix. Billboard (track 2) is the first song I ever wrote. Now these insecure lines hold a place of attention. I am so pleased.
I donât come from snow country, but for now I call it home. I grew up in the Sonoran desert, and someday Iâll find my way back there. Music is my way of balancing extremes. I have many - but through words I gain acceptance, through singing I gain a place for myself. These are things I hope I bring to people as they listen.
