âWe don't want to just tour in small circles,â says Leyden. âWe want to get big and try to stick with it for a long time. We don't want to be a flash in the pan..â With eight years under its belt, Jaded Era is well-equipped to avoid that. It's already made a series of hard collective decisions. Each gave up going away to college, seriously pursuing soccer (Hilj, Ortopan), football (Andrea) or theater (Leyden) to keep the band going. The guys went to the University of Akron, while Leyden studied musical theater at Kent. They juggled school, rehearsals, shows and recording for two years. They released a second album, Invisible , in 2002, earning airplay on WMMS, local write-ups and choice opening slots. They played in Los Angeles for record labels, nearly signing with A&M. But in the process, they realized they'd need to make another hard choice. âWe went through our sophomore year in college and just recently said, âOK, we're really going to focus on this 15 hours a day and write, write, write,'â says Andrea. âWe'd be staying up the entire night making our record, go home, get three hours sleep, go straight to class and then I'd have a rehearsal,â says Leyden. âWe were like, when are we finally going to just get to focus on the band?â Jaded Era has been touted as an alternative band, but its affinity for accessible mainstream rock influenced by arena bands of the '70s, '80s and '90s, is evident on the new disc. Rockers âVanityâ and âPlay Godâ recall Bon Jovi and Pat Benatar, while the sonically playful âRock Onâ and âSpacemanâ suggest '80s New Wave bands such as Howard Jones and Thompson Twins. âWhat Ifâ sounds like the sort of universal-appeal crossover ballad Faith Hill or Trisha Yearwood would record. âWhen our first record came out, we were imitating people,â says Leyden. âI was definitely looking at [Gwen Stefani] a lot. We grow every year and listen to new stuff. But I've listened to a lot of the same stuff since I was little. My parents used to play the Kinks all the time. Pearl Jam has always been my favorite band ever since I was 9. They do a little bit of everything on every record. That's what we want to do too. So every song on this record is a little different from the last one.â â Invisible was more a middle-of-the-road record,â says Andrea. âWe've turned up the rock a bit and we're hoping to take that even farther on the songs we're writing now. We just want to keep focusing on writing the songs and regardless if it sounds like an '80s song or a country ballad, we'll still do it as long as we think it's a good song.â

Since forming 9 years ago in Akron / Cuyahoga Falls, OH with Kira, Jeff, Eric, and Marco in the same 7th grade classroom, this innovative female-fronted ROCK band has grown into a powerful presence throughout the midwest. The band has come a long way since their elementary school dances. Not many people would have thought that a bunch of 14 year-old kids playing in front of a tip jar could stick together and mature into what is now been voted as Cleveland's Best Rock Band for the 3rd year in a row by Scene & Free Times Magazine. Jaded Era is continuing a massive buzz from their 2nd album (Invisible) with their new record Study of the Human Race. The title track from their âInvisibleâ record has been in regular rotation on Clevelandâs largest rock station WMMS, which is unheard of for a local band in their area. Independent stations all over the midwest continue to pick up JE tunes.

JE, themselves, have independently released three full-length albums, and they are currently working on a fourth. Tim Patalan (Sponge, Lovedrug, The Fags), mixed and produced Invisible, JEâs follow-up to 2001âs Laugh at the World, as well as tracks on Study of the Human Race. While touring diligently for many years, JE has played over 700 shows and sold more than 6,000 CDs out of the back of their minivan. Recently chosen to open for Bon Jovi at Q-Arena, theyâve also shared stages with Maroon 5, Evanescence, Sugar Ray, Alanis, BNL, Steppenwolf, The Flaming Lips & many more... They were recently chosen by Billboard Magazine, Taxi, and Disc Makers as a top finalist in the Midwest for the 2005 Independent Music World Series. Taxi also helped JE land their tunes in a few films and TV shows including "South of Nowhere" a show on The N Network, the nighttime network for teens. They've also recently been stirring up major interest on the west coast, ever since their first visit to Los Angeles in 2003, JE found themselves showcasing for many major label presidents.
