Details:
Jamie McCarthy was 20 years old when he earned himself the role of lead vocalist of the early 90âs alt rock band Modern Cocktail Party. After a year of touring and a fallen deal with Warner Bros records he was swept into the world of commercial production and voice over work. In 1995 as he was about to embrace the music industry once again his father, legendary Hall of Fame Radio host J.P McCarthy passed away. Jamie then spiraled quietly into the depths of a Dewarâs bottle for 6 yearsâ¦Appearing occasionally on the WJR radio show, Happy hour where he would perform experimental tracks that he had written under the influenceâ¦often quoting Charles Bukowski and then leaving the show. In the fall of 2001, he sobered and returned from a 10 year hiatus from the music business. He began writing music again after a trip to Santa Monica, California where heâd seen a homeless person hang himself from a tree on Ocean Ave. Inspired by the tragedy, he wrote Strange Town and it was the beginning of a project that he swore he would see through to completion. He also began producing tracks for the bands like the Basement Stairs, and in the process decided that he would also start his own indie labelâ¦flatbellyrecords. McCarthyâs unique lyrical and vocal style has recently earned him points from the often-jaded critics in the music business. He has recently signed two alt college bands and a rap trio from Detroit that he will also produce and introduce on Flatbellyrecords.

As for McCarthyâs music, his confessional story telling lyrics are thought provoking and honest. The listener will travel to some pretty dark places but will often be left with a positive message.
