A Call For Freedom...
The last two weeks have been one of the most difficult times in my life. Following the events of September 11th, I was in shock and overcome by a feeling of helplessness. This is by far my least comfortable state of mind. On the evening of September 13th, I received a telephone call from a dear friend who was also trying to deal with the tragedy. It is very difficult for an artist to know what impact they have or even if they can successfully translate their ideas into art. As I sit here and listen to the final result of the project, I come to realize why I am a musician.
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to visit New York for the first time. It is the greatest city on earth. I will never forget the images which encompassed me while walking through the streets; and I will never forget coming out of a subway station and finding myself a few blocks away from the World Trade Center. There are no words to describe it, and there are no words to describe what humanity has lost.
Upon my return from New York, I completed my first painting in over a year entitled âNew York State of Mindâ. This painting is included on the cover as a tribute to the never ending achievements of mankind, and to those who lost their lives and who live their lives protecting our most sacred value â freedom!
This song was at times effortless, and at other times, impossible. Without the true professionalism and persistence of Greg and Randy, this project would have never come to fruition. I would also like to thank Vohn and Bob for their performances and contributions to this project. Most of all, I would like to thank our families and loved ones, who through this trying time gave their support and encouragement. Last, but not least, I would like to thank Brenna and our newly found friend, Burnham Cricket, who aided us with tidbits of humor when we most needed it. We live for freedom!
