Details:
Judge Fletcherâs vocal talents are a product of his up bringing as well as his undying determination to excel. His deep resonant bass tones are enjoyed by many and, as he ages, it only gets better.
He began singing early in life. He grew up in an a capella church and was blessed with a large extended family who were members of the same denomination. At family get-togethers, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, the family would set aside part of every evening to sing their favorite hymns, and the vocal harmonies were as tight as any professional choir.
While in high school, Fletcher learned what it meant to perform music, not just sing it. He sang in the choir and acted in the school musicals all 4 years, He also participated in local and state wide vocal competitions. In his sophomore year, Judge claimed 2nd chair for basses in the state of Texas. His best friend from church beat him out by a tenth of a point for 1st chair.
On Fletcher's 16th birthday a friend of his parents from church gave Judge the guitar that he had learned to play on. âMy poor parents didnât sleep for months,â Fletcher says, âuntil I learned how to play a little. After that, they really didnât sleep because I would play along with the radio into the wee hours of the morning.â On his 18th birthday, he traded in that guitar for the 12-string Yamaha that he still plays today.
At 22, with his guitar in hand and a few songs he had written, Judge hopped a bus to a little town outside of Houston, Texas where his second cousin had just opened a recording studio. He recorded the album âFrom the Heartâ and released 500 copies on cassette tape and printed 500 singles on 45s. Recently, the tape went back into the studio and it was transferred from tape to CD.
Fletcher joined the Marine Corps in 1990 and before boot camp was over, was recognized as a singer and entertainer. After military school, he was assigned to a unit at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and soon after that, was singing for the USO in town and entertaining people from all over the area.
While deployed overseas in Japan and the Mediterranean Sea, he performed for the troops at every port and, also sang for some dignitaries, including the Commanding General of the Army in Spain. On the way home from his last Mediterranean deployment, Fletcher won the talent competition on the ship and was cheered by the 2500 people aboard when he accepted the award from the ships Captain.
After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 1994, Fletcher moved back to Texas and got married. He stopped performing music for about 10 years in order to spend time with his wife. A decision, he says, he has never regretted.
Now, Fletcher is performing nearly every weekend. With his guitar and that mellow bass voice, heâs entertaining everyone that will listen and it seems more and more people are beginning to.
Fletcher can hold a crowd of any size with his pure vocal talents and wonderful acoustic guitar rythyms. Couple that with his slight southern drawl and charm and you can see why he is destinded to follow in the footsteps of other great entertainers like George Strait and Randy Travis. If you ever have the opportunity to hear him sing, donât miss it. You will be truly entertained.
