J Hotel is an experimental band focused on combining several types of music into a common theme. Itâs difficult to classify the group; each song takes on a different genre, or set of genres. The band has heavy metal roots exploring other musical territory, including; Industrial, Modern Rock, Acoustic, Blues, and Techno.
Their latest release, a self-titled, 14 track CD, is a prime example of their multi-faceted sound. This album takes the listener on a musical journey through several textures and moods, yet it retains integrity throughout. From crushing guitar riffs and raging vocals on songs such as the title track âJ Hotelâ, âHookedâ, and âAnxietyâ, to infectious dance beats on âSpeak to Meâ and âManipulationâ, to delicate and melancholy themes on âHopelessâ and âLostâ, this album offers diversity with the goal of tapping into the emotions of the listener.
The new album is a follow-up to their successful debut, Clandestine Dreams. After parting ways with their rhythm section, Eric Mondok and Joe Flowers combined their creative resources to accomplish an expansion of the bandâs sound, and a return to J Hotelâs studio project roots. Their efforts have certainly paid off. The result is a very solid, well-produced album with a great mix.
