The Jellydots are a highly skilled band of music teachers. The lyrical themes are silly, fun, and sometimes serious.
13 MP3 Songs
POP: 60's Pop, KIDS/FAMILY: Kid Friendly
Details:
The Jellydots began as the brainchild of Guitar Instructor and Singer/Songwriter Doug Snyder. Challenged by the reluctance of his younger students to learn the old standard folk tunes found in popular guitar method books, Snyder began teaching composition and co-writing songs with his kids (some of them were as young as seven).
Doug and his pupils started writing the songs in March of 2002, and by October he released Music is Cool,a low-budget indie home recording full of songs about his cat, race cars, and cookies. âMusic is Coolâ was initially used as a collection of fun guitar duets to teach his students how to play guitar.
The songs are arranged on the CD in order of difficulty. A beginning guitar method book based on these songs is in the works. The catchy tunes and positive lyrics on this record began to stick in peoplesâ heads, CD players, and hearts. Soon, listeners began comparing The Jellydots to Simon and Garfunkel and Elliott Smith. In fact, Eric Shea from Listen.com had this to say about Dougâs songs: Warm and earnest vocals sing over the skillful picking of a round-toned acoustic guitar. Snyderâs folk music rests in the tradition of the The Graduateâs soundtrack.
Doug eventually began performing songs from âMusic is Coolâ with his students at their recitals. As interest in the songs grew, he assembled an all-star lineup of Austin musicians/music instructors to play out around town.
In the Winter of 2004 The Jellydots released Sleepin, a limited edition CD designed to help people sleep.
The Jellydots have just finished a 13 song album called âHey You Kids!â âHey You Kids!â was recorded in June of 2006 with Mark Addison at his Aerie Studio in Austin. Jim wilson mastered it in his new studio, Airshow Mastering in Boulder, CO.
âHey You Kids!â is a compilation of all the hits songs by The Jellydots over the last four years with three new songs (Captain Sleep, Bicycle, and Three is a Magic Number.â Tracks 1-9 are uptempo dance tunes designed to wear your kid out. The album ends on a slow note with four soft and mellow tunes perfect for naptime. âHey You Kids!â was recorded live with the band, so youâll feel like youâre right there with them at a show.
