In the early 1970's Jeff Bird made the simultaneous discovery of hashish, headphones and the music of J.S. Bach. He remembers it as a very mind blowing experience. Very visual: "it was like I could see all the parts of the music engaged in a dance, each going their own separate way and then swooping back and joining together."

In 1999 Jeff dug out that old vinyl recording to see how it had stood the test of time. After few minutes listening, the smoke detector shrieked its alarm. Upon investigation Jeff soon discovered the source of the smoke to be his speakers; they were on fire.

"Ever since that epiphany of the early seventies I have continued to search for, and happily still find, that same magic. I try to instigate projects involving musicians with whom I share instant rapport. I am inspired by all musical genres from all ages. Live improvised performance is a particular favourite, and often my compositions start from these improvisations. as a multi media artist I am enthralled with the marriage of image and music."

Long time resident of Guelph Ontario, Jeff Bird is best known for his long time association with Cowboy Junkies. His multi-instrumental talents can be heard on the legendary recording The Trinity Session and all Cowboy Junkies' subsequent albums. He has toured extensively with them throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Japan. ( See Junkies "Profiles")

Jeff is also a founding member of the renowned folk group Tamarack. As a sideman he has performed and recorded with such diverse artists as Tony Quarrington, Loreena McKennitt, Graham Townshend, Jane Siberry, Bernie Senensky, Gwen Swick, Dark Monkey and countless others. He can be heard playing one or more of these instruments: Electric and acoustic bass, electric and acoustic mandolin, fiddle, piano, keyboards, guitar, harmonica, percussion, various wind instruments and vocals.

Jeff has composed music for both film and television, including the feature films South of Wawa, House, Niagara Niagara and Boys Club. His record production credits include Black Cabbage, Tamarack, The Bird Sisters, Celtic Blue, Dark Monkey and Dennis Gomo.

Jeff has two solo recordings; Jeff Bird and Everything is Coming Clear and Plain to My Understanding, as well as two live recordings, Live at the Oasis Lounge and Deep Breathing. Jeff has also produced a feature length video; a photographic odyssey that accompanies the music of Everything is coming Clear and Plain to my Understanding.

He has just finished recording, producing and arranging music for a spoken word piece with award winning Magnum photographer, Larry Towell. The piece explores Larry's 12 year experience of living with and photographing old order Mennonites in Mexico and southern Ontario.

Jeff has just embarked on a film career of his own producing experimental shorts. The award winning "Relentless" and the just finished " Rink".
