Pop-rock with vocals that alternately soar, growl, and coil around visceral lyrics and brooding verses then explode into hooked-filled choruses.
10 MP3 Songs
POP: California Pop, ROCK: Modern Rock
Details:
âNo one plays guitar and sings like the great Jessie Turnerâ
-San Francisco Chronicle
ââ¦excellent, versatile vocal cords; she soars on the high notes and drops to a sultry altoâ
-San Francisco Bay Guardian
âHer beautiful, liquid soprano holds pitch well and flows through a couple of octaves like a clear mountain stream. Her dynamics, even during a single number, may range from a wiser to a rousing, full-throated proclamatory lineâ
-San Francisco Examiner
âThe road to notoriety is long, bumpy, and steep. Artists need an all-terrain temperament and a lot of drive if they are to arrive intact. It's a lesson Bay Area Singer-songwriter Jessie Turner knows well. For several years she has slowly but surely been winning over audiences on the U.S. folk circuit with her warm crystalline voice, deft guitar work, and powerful stage presence. Recently she even sang to millions of television viewers who saw her perform the American National Anthem at a St. Louis Cardinals game. â¦an artist with a most promising future.â
-Dirty Linen
âClever lyrical ideas and inviting melodies...A strong live performer...â
-Music Connection Magazine
Jessie Turner's songs and singing have a unique power and originality. She is blazing a promising path toward becoming one of the notable singer-songwriters of her generation.
-Paul Winter
Jessie Turner tackles Rock, Salsa, Country, and Classical in her new full length CD, âFreak of Fancyâ. âFreak of Fancyâ demonstrates Turnerâs ability to successfully traverse these genres with her own style intact. Tough without being harsh, sweet with out being sappy, Turnerâs unique vocals and signature percussive guitar playing flow from one song to another and seamlessly unite this diverse collection of compositions.
One of the more persistent observations about her aptly named first release, "Here and There" was that it was just thatâa wide variety of styles. For ease of classification, her second CD, "All the Sweet Things" featured a more cohesive group of songs. Having discovered that the realities of the industry are stacked against eclecticism and those artists who have passed beyond their teenage years, Turner has come to terms with her native bent, which is not to conform, but in fact to resist classificationâto do what appeals to her artistically and aesthetically.
Though Turnerâs pen is guided by numerous sojourns through Spain and Latin America, travels through the south, and a tour through music school, she freely admits taking enormous liberties. Collaboration with musicians B.Z Lewis and Billy Lee Lewis (Tommy Castro, Roy Rogers) strengthened her efforts.
Turnerâs unfailing pop sensibilities have won her numerous placements. These include MTV's hit drama series, Undressed; Standing on Fishes (Kelsey Grammer and Jason Priestly); Black Cloud (Rick Schroder and Tim McGraw); and a song on the Tommy Castro Band's CD, Guilty of Love.
Based in the Bay Area, Turner plays in festivals, clubs, and concert settings. She plays solo or with her five-piece band that wields some of the areaâs best players Billy Lee Lewis, B.Z. Lewis, Don Bassey, and Pam Delgado (Blame Sally).
