Whimsical, psychedelic "indie rock," richly shag-carpeted in melody, in the same broad vein as 70's bowie, late beatles, and recent albums by the flaming lips and modest mouse.
11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Psychedelic, POP: British Pop
Details:
INVIOLET ROW releases their groundbreaking 2nd album Nevertheless, an anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2002 debut Consolation Prizes.
A typical tracking session: Johnson might place microphones in a clothes dryer. Scrivner might suspend his 1950âs no-name tube amplifier, bought from a passing ruffian for $3.00 above the dryer at just the right angle until the whole contraption sings with a voice that fits the song. A squeaky kick drum pedal might be miked for itâs own rhythmic contributions. Instruments might range from a back-masked 19th century psaltery, to a reverberating sliding glass door, to a plastic lighter brushing against an air conditioning vent.
But this is not to say that the bandâs sound is as flimsy as their whimsical engineering approaches would suggest. The album is surprisingly massive and expansive; the mix, rock solid. The album sounds not so much like a band tinkering, but like a band about to steal some deserved spotlight.
INVIOLET ROW // NEVERTHELESS
