Under blue summer skies, under blue water lies, something new: sophisticated blues. A few years ago, I ran for public office as an independant candidate with a "Save the Bay" campaign. I didn't win that year, but the bay has been losing every year for decades: with overfishing, oil spills, toxic waste, neglect and non-stop abuse. Some very interesting folks live and work here, and because we all have a style and a kind of maverick spirit that should be celebrated and shared (some say jailed and forgotten), I built a recording studio in an empty bedroom and started writing and recording songs about what life is like on the waterfront: the blue summer skies, the neighbor who spikes up a lemonade and sails off to party, the friend who packs up gear and sails off to war. All the plans, mistakes and love made, the end of an intimate relationship, how tough it is stretching paychecks paper thin; it's all happening here, like a lot of other places, but the bay brings it all home. I love this place. There's more peace, comfort, conflict, adventure and memories found on these shores than anywhere else on earth. It's time to give back.
