Power-pop with big guitar crunch, some real back-beat presence, and encircling guitars, bold melodies and no hint of boyish niceties or polite mannerism - Jack Rabid (The Big Takeover)
14 MP3 Songs
POP: Beatles-pop, POP: Power Pop
Details:
Self-release number three from pop rock musician Greg Hoy happens to be the first issued under both his first AND last names. Meticulously created in his Brooklyn apartment studio during a creative near year-long bout with âgainful under-employment,â the record digs into politics, both international and interpersonal, priming the power pop pump while adding disco beats, analog synths, acoustic guitars and hand percussion.
The first, self-titled solo CD HOY was recorded and released in 2003, receiving substantial support from NYC press and beyond, getting placement of the lead-off track âTested By Historyâ on the WB Network television series âOne Tree Hillâ. Live shows as a trio followed, with writing of new material in 2004.
Release two, 2005âs mega-caffeinated band effort âForever Endeavour,â features a tasty guitar cameo by Bad Religion/Minor Threat guitarist Brian Baker. Recorded both at Gregâs home studio and with the notorious Mr Wohlsen (50 Cent) in Brooklyn. The bandâs exciting live show was honed from Detroit to Boston to DC and back.
âGreg Hoy & The Boysâ will begin promoting the CD with live shows after its release in 2006, available as are the previous two releases at Not Lame Recording Company, CD Baby and iTunes.
âTastemakers & Heartbreakersâ
Written, played, recorded and mixed by GH at home.
Additional live drum recording at Cook Street Sound
Tambourine & mixing assistance on 7 by Dave Sharma
Mastering by Travis Leonard at Kitchen Mastering, NC
Available 2006 at
