Details:
Adam's Myth is a band, although at the moment it has just one member. His name, oddly enough, is Adam Smith. Being that the band name and his name sound so similar, he says,

"How I came up with the name is kind of an oddity. I was signing up to list my songs on MP3.com a few years back, and discovered there was already an artist there with the name Adam Smith. And, just as I am, he was a guitarist." "I played around with it for a few moments, and Adam's Myth popped out, and it stuck. It kind of played off of the Adam and Eve thing, along with the idea of Myth being a powerful way of conveying ideas".

Something that potential fans and music lovers relate to is what he tries to convey in his music as well as his lyrics. He admits to being a little twisted. "I think a lot of pop lyrics just don't go far past the surface of things, so they get old fast. People are full of nuance and gray shadows, even darkness, as well as light. Finding a way to bring that forth in a song is what I find challenging, because the subject of a song can have depth, and be accessible, without alienating folks. People and their relationships can be so strange, dark and weird, as well as meaningful, joyous and real."

Asked how he categorizes himself musically, he doesn't go off into a 3-paragraph rant the way some independent artists do about how categorization has ruined the music industry. "Man, it's just basically Rock & Roll. My favorite era of music is the 70's and 80's, and a lot of what I do is just a re-framing of that era within THIS era. In between then and now, we've had Electronica, Grunge, Alternative, Rap, Garage, and a few earlys. Ideas from that float around in my noggin. Underneath that, bands still around from the 70's and 80's continue to tour and release music from their era because people still like it. I was also raised on Classical music as a kid, and fantasized at the time of growing up to be a composer/conductor like Beethoven or Copeland. I studied Piano, Violin, learned all that stuff, theory, harmony, orchestration, yet still, Rock and Roll is the medium I feel most comfortable expressing myself through. I guess it's a bit eclectic, too.

Not to avoid the question, "If you like music by Alan Parson Project, Bauhaus, Wang Chung, David Bowie, Eric Johnson, and Dave Ralph, then you will probably like what I do."

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he has seen his share of the world by touring with early artists of all kinds, and a list of play-dates will be listed soon at this site. He will be concentrating on his local market first, and spread out from there.
