Details:
High Cotton is an acoustic trio made up of Laura and John Monk and PJ Engeman. They create a pure acoustic sound centering on original songs with a unique perspective. It is a blending of dynamic, expressive vocals built on a firm percussion/bass foundation. High Cottonâs style ranges from Americana to Folk Rock with many stops in between! This is really live musicâ¦.no drum machines, no computers! Formed in the spring of 2003, High Cotton has become a mainstay in the fast growing Atlanta acoustic music scene. High Cotton release their first, self titled album in 2004. Their latest release âHanging By A Threadâ contains songs that cover the breadth of their diverse writing and musical styles.
Laura an Atlanta native has been a part of local music scene in both Atlanta and Charlotte, N.C. for many years. She has been an active performer in both the Ga. and N.C. Renaissance festivals and has performed many different types of music. Her experience as a professional story-teller shines through her performance as the songs come to be told not just sung. She has been in bands whose styles range from pop, rock & roll, Celtic and childrenâs music and is equally comfortable with old standards.
John, who hails from New Jersey, brings an appreciation of all types of music. Playing electric bass and looking very cool he has a knack for choosing obscure, but great cover tunes. Youâll hear more bass sounds as John adds some deep bass harmonies. And not to be forgottenâ¦â¦.he has really great hair!
PJ is a self described âold and in the wayâ child of the 60âs. He grew up in the shadow of the Big Apple where he observed the âfolkâ boom up close and hung out at Jazz workshops every Saturday night he could. PJ provides the rhythm and percussion sounds that glue all three together! He also adds the occasional harmony touch as well as some great guitar playing.
As singer-songwriters all three bring an appreciation of all types of music to their creationsâ¦.their songs touch the heartstrings as well as the funny bone!
Their latest CD, High Cotton âHanging By A Threadâ was released in March 2006.
