Love the Way we Do It
The songs on this CD are my life. Literally. From a teenager serving in the Air force in Viet Nam to a few years back. The songs are a musical diary that form a story that goes a little something like thisâ¦â¦.
âLINDA Câ was a great friend. We met in the service. We laughed together, ate together, stared into the eyes of death together and even cried together. I couldnât ask for a more caring and warm individual to share my every joy and fear with. However, she was not the target of my affection. Not an intentional dodge mind you, just a plain over-sight. I never picked up on the signs. She was my friend. I didnât come to realize till much later in life that she could have been the one. Funny too, because I am so vulnerable to the love of a woman. I fall hard at the slightest sign of affection cast upon me.
Rochelle was my downfall. She was so beautiful to me. Her very touch, every move sheâd make, mesmerized me. I found my soul mate. I gave her âALL OF MY LOVEâ every night. (OK, maybe not every night, but you get the picture). But alas, life finds a way to kick you in the ass, tear out your guts, rip out your heart and stomp on it till itâs forced to beat to a different tune than you were hoping for.
Rochelle was married, and with children. No, itâs not what youâre thinking. She was actually separated when we fell for each other. And although I thought my corner of the world was secure. That with her, I was hoping that our little place, our âSOMEPLACE IS FOREVERâ. But I was dealt a hand I couldnât win with. We were a great pair, but her husband had a full house. It finally dawned on her what she had to do. She felt it her duty to mend a marriage, even as bad as it was, for the childrenâs sake. I couldnât blame her for it. Hell, I even encouraged her to go back.
What a dumb ass I was to let her go. Can you believe it? Me. A man with morals! Letâs see if those morals keep me warm at night. Fat chance! It didnât. And I went on âSEARCHINGâ hoping to replace this feeling I lost.
My God, the pain. We were so much in love that I couldnât bear living without her. It gets so lonely and the darkness of the nights became a prison to me. I was being smothered by the emptiness that my life became. I turned to any deterrent I could get my hands on. Mainly booze and drugs. I had to try to forget. I wanted my brain to be as numb as my body. After all a crushed heart canât possibly pump an adequate amount of blood through your veins.
I was totally lost until I had a visit from the âWISEMANâ. Far be it for me to be what you might call religious, but I was in total darkness and despair and if not given this chance to see the light, I would have gave up on a most precious commodity. Life. I made a trip to the KINGDOM OF MR. ROCKLIGHTâ and was guided to a place where the healing was to begin. Saint Liz (âSAY LIZâ ). After a lengthy stay, I finally could see âGOOD TO BETTER TIMESâ approaching. For I relied on an old friend that was always there for me. My music. Even in the darkest hour, you âCANâT STOP THE FIRE !
And when I finally was back on my feet again and back in the world of the living, I gave another old friend of mine a call. Linda. After a lengthy talk and just short of her busting me upside my head with a 2x4 I came to realize that I was her âSTAR PRODUCERâ. And to this day, with the true love of my life I can honestly say âI LOVE THE WAY WE DO ITâ.
Linda, you are my friend. You are my Love. You are my life. Truly, âMY HEART IS ALL IN YOUâ!
