Details:
NOT ME is a musical revue with original comedy songs written by Hector Coris and Paul L. Johnson. NOT ME is not only Hector's cabaret debut as a solo performer, but as songwriter as well. In NOT ME, Hector explores how he manages to evade or fall short of stereotypical trappings of the cabaret world. The collection of 14 songs range from the biographical, the geographical and the hysterical. Assisted by the very talented Tripp Pettigrew and Mickey Toogood, Hector delves into the conundrums of cabaret celebrity ("Not Me", "What The Hell Am I Doing Here?"), the pressures of being gay ("Terrible Homosexual"), love and sex ("A Country Love Song", "Blonde Hair Blue Eyes", "Lowering My Standards") and the after-life ("In Heaven [They Sing Nothing But Showtunes].") In the evening's tour-de-force opus "A Soprano's Life For Me", Hector schizophrenically delves into his inner diva.

Paul L. Johnson's rich and catchy melodies are the perfect match for Hector's witty, urbane lyrics. These songs are the bastard children of ALL musical theatre composers/lyricists with a West Village flair!

HECTOR CORIS has been an enjoyable presence on the NYC cabaret scene for quite some time. He has appeared in the original cast of Rick Crom's MAC and BISTRO Award-winning musical revue OUR LIFE & TIMES, which enjoyed a 2-year run in NYC and Atlantic City, NJ at the Tropicana Resort. Recently, Hector has enjoyed a three-year stint in AROUND THE WORLD IN A BAD MOOD, a comedy revue written by Rene Foss about the joys and jeers of commercial air travel. AROUND THE WORLD IN A BAD MOOD has been performed in NYC as well as several cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. He has also been seen at The Duplex, Don't Tell Mama and The Triad. Hector currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.

REVIEWS OF "NOT ME":

"Hector Coris is a delightful discovery. Not Me, this songwriter/singer's playful act at Don't Tell Mama, was wry, rueful, and royally ridiculous. His lyrics, matched with music by Paul L. Johnson, made wonderful comic sport out of Coris's life. Bad at being Spanish ("The Only Spanish Thing I Do") and gay ("Terrible Homosexual"), and unlucky in love ("Lowering My Standards"), Coris sings his own inspired, self-deprecating songs with a genuine talent for performance: He has impeccable comic timing and a great sad-sack mug.

Strongest on the comedy material, this is an entertainer who really seems to know himself so he never strayed off course for too long. The show consisted entirely of original material and a very large percentage of it was damned good. Musical director Paul L. Johnson helped make all of the songs sound swell. Ricky Merpi and Matthew Myers provided amusing backup and director Collette Black did a splendid job of staging this revue so as to milk every last laugh from it. " - Scott & Barbara Siegel, Theatermania

"This show is one of the funniest seen in some time... Presented with total aplomb by Mr. Coris, assisted by two really cute and talented backup singers (Tripp Pettigrew and Mickey Toogood) it was a show that I hope to see again - it simply zipped by so fast! [Hector] delivers the material with such gusto, you barely have time to catch your breath from laughing so hard. I certainly see a "Special Material" nomination coming..." - Stu Hamstra, Cabaret Hotline

"Adorably versatile." - Doug DeVita, Off-Off Broadway Review
