Details:
Logan Heftel is a performing singer/songwriter/producer based out of Spokane, Washington. He began writing songs as a sophomore in high school after discovering Bob Dylan. His lyrical style is often abstract and fictional, without sacrificing rhyme and melody. He writes and performs all his songs with an acoustic guitar, being a fan of many acoustic artists like James Taylor, Damien Rice, and Dave Matthews. He began teaching himself to accompany his guitar playing with a harmonica about the same time he started writing. He now performs most of his shows solo, with just his voice, acoustic guitar, and collection of harmonicas.
His debut album, âIf It Does,â which David Rachac of howwastheshow.com called âone of the best independent releases that I have heard,â was released in December of 2005, and contains 13 original songs with full arrangements. Although most performances are solo, he often performs with drummer Kris Hafso and bassist Brannon Heftel. The group placed 1st at BOBfest 2005, and 1st at The Scene 2005 Battle of the Bands. In November 2005 they were featured on Spokaneâs 103.1 KCDA Local Lounge radio show, and in January 2006 were voted 2nd place for the Top 5 of â05 Local Lounge guests.
He spent last year at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota as a Music Production major. He recorded and produced Jonathan Nicholsonâs new album, âCalliopeâs End,â which was released in April 2006. He has also recorded and produced The Notedâs debut EP, which will be released this summer. New projects with local Spokane artists are in the works now that he has returned to Spokane. He continues to perform around Spokane, and has also performed in other cities including Las Vegas, Honolulu, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Coeur dâAlene (See past shows at www.loganheftel.com/pastshows.php). Logan has already started writing and recording for his next album.
â[If It Does] may be one of the best independent releases that I have heard - a bright mixture of acoustic folk and radio-ready folk-pop with a maturity far beyond his nineteen years.
ââ¦It is rare for an artist who is so early in his career to merge thoughtful songwriting, guitar playing and singing into such a professional package, and do it with seemingly little effort. Just a few seconds into his first song, I was amazed at how complete his live performance was - his finger-picking style sounded bright and lively, his voice warm and expressive, and he played harmonica with an impressive mixture of facile speed and restraint.â
-David Rachac, www.howwastheshow.com
âLoganâs music is mature, finely crafted and deep beyond his years. He has a gift for writing lyrics that probe the soul. His guitar work is tasteful and inventive and his voice well suited to his ballads. One of the most talented young artists I have heard in a long time.â
-Jack McNally, Co-founder of McNally Smith College of Music
âHeftel's songwriting shows the sort of wisdom that should take twice his years to acquire.â
-Isamu Jordan, The Spokesman-Review
"There are few musicians that give me as much joy to listen to as Logan Heftel. His music is filled with an emotional depth and intelligence that evokes a strong curiousity in the listener to try and perceive the world from Logan's perspective. He seems to have an innate knack with creating a personal connection with his audience."
- Jonathan Nicholson, Fingerstyle Guitarist & Recording Artist
