Eranga,
born in Sri Lanka, this extremely talented
singer/songwriter comes from a very musical family...
her father being one of the pioneers of the great
Tower Hall musical theatre. Singing and music was
second nature as they grew up on an estate
and after work they'd gather around the piano with Amma
(a classically trained pianist) and Thatha who played
violin and everyone joined in with music from around
the World! Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis,Harry
Belafonte, Nana Mouskouri and the light Classics from
England and Ireland were as familiar to them as their very
own national music.
The story goes that... when Eranga was a baby and whenever she
cried out loud, she was not picked up but rather was
comforted by her father playing the Violin!
Eranga was introduced to Prianga by his uncle Vernon
and was welcomed into their family with open arms as he
joined in with his accoustic guitar and introduced
Eranga to the likes of Peter, Paul and Mary, Nina and
Frederick, the Kingston trio, Miriam Makeba , Joan
Baez and Pete Seeger to mention only a few. They
married soon after and in no time, established
themselves in the musical scene. It wasn't easy as
kids from their kind of families did not go into show
biz!.They decided to take their music and travel the
World and began a beautiful journey that took them to
many, many countries culminating in their own TV show
for the BBC.
They now live and work in exciting New York City. Among
Eranga's many talents... appeared in Lucille Ball's "Stone Pillow",
"America's Most Wanted", etc..
The CD "Are we just good friends" is Eranga's first
solo album and she hopes that everyone will be touched
by her music which is straight from the heart.
