Edgy string arrangements and inventive guitar work adorn these poetic songs about water by multi-faceted Bay Area musician Erik Pearson.
13 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, ROCK: Americana
Details:
Erik Pearson grew up in Easton, PA - the former home of "Sing Out" magazine, which is fitting for a guy with such a huge repertoire of old folk songs. He has a degree in composition from Oberlin College, and lends his open-minded multi-instrumental support to Bay Area rock bands (including Mushroom, Billy Talbot), singer-songwriters (including Sonya Hunter, Matt Lax), old-time string bands and choreographers. Pearson can also often be found on stage creating banjo and guitar soundscapes for internationally acclaimed storyteller Dianne Ferlatte.
Drawing from his wide palette Pearson produced an album of his own folk rock gems in 1996. Engineered by Fuc* mastermind Kyle Statham, "Water" bubbles with Pearson's edgy string arrangements and inventive guitar work, and flows with the ethereal background voices of Alice Bierhorst and Sonya Hunter. The songwriting seamlessly merges his chamber music composition background with a healthy love of rock 'n' roll and folk classics. Influences like Nick Drake, Robert Fripp and Richard Thompson can be detected, but the sound is ultimately all his own.
