This album shows a move towards an interesting blend of electronic experimentalism filtered through a unique metal sensibility. At times ambient, at others majestic and crushing, this release contains a wide spectrum of musical ideas.
7 MP3 Songs
METAL: Dark Ambient/Noise, ELECTRONIC: Experimental
Details:
At its creation in 1998, Eru was making songs out of found and processed sounds/loops woven together with strands of instrumental improvisation. The music of this early period at times resembled early Coil or a morose Brian Eno. On some albums the electronics would take the forefront; on others they would be almost entirely absent, the songs being composed instead of melancholic and unsettling layers of guitar. Around the turn of the millennium, elements of doom metal-influenced aggression began creeping into the mix along with an orchestral grandeur while retaining a cosmic surrealist vibe. The most successful realization of this period was "Eingeweide eines Spiegelbilds" in 2002. Over the course of the next few albums, the metal elements declined and the influences dissolved even more thoroughly into a refined whole. Eru has continued to evolve since then and has never failed to tread new and interesting musical ground. Among other scheduled releases in the future are the bleak and misanthropic opus "Apocalypse" and a thematic musical exploration of Ursula K. Le Guin's book "City of Illusions."
