This guy was living in the San Francisco bay area. Thatâs a sexy way of saying âthe suburbs.â Just living, wasting away mostly, but living just the same.
A letter came from a school in Los Angeles about studying screenwriting. He had dabbled in this type of thing before. Yes, Los Angeles. Thatâs the answer.
The U-Haul. Interstate 5. The interminable straight highway. The manure smell.
Then, Los Angeles.
The smell of gas. The haze. The beauty. The consumers. The life.
A crappy apartment in Koreatown, two blocks east of Western Avenue.
Thatâs where most of these songs were written, late at night, or in the slow motion of unemployed midday, lost in the hum and the helicopters of Los Angeles.
Back up north, in the cold, amongst the computers, they record.
They can only record on Fridays, so it takes forever.
It takes an extremely long time.
Did we mention the album took a very long time to record? It did.
Itâs done now, and the world has itself the last thing it ever needed: another rock and roll band.
The band is East Of Western. This is the album. This is the music.
Just more wandering souls making noise amidst the noise.
