Details:
Moon Child's Sweet Dalliance is a brilliant soundscape of different tones, melodies, touches, and sounds that melt together in this eccentric debut album by Singer/songwriter/keyboardist Elise Bedrosian. The older sister of Parliament Funkadelic keyboardist Danny Bedrosian, Elise has her fair share of funk on this musical slab, as well as some very different genres encompassing everything from ambient to world to crunk to country to classical. The album also benefits from the production of her brother Danny, who is also featured on this album, along with the other Pfunk keyboardist, Jerome Rodgers, and former Sweet Motha Child bandmate Chris Monty on live drums. It is a great musical adventure for music lovers everywhere.
The trip starts on the avant garde ambient note, with Princess Suite, which enraptures the non-lyrical vocal abilities of Elise, showing influence from Celtic ambient singer Enya. The second part cadences into a music box/string ensemble with Bedrosian reciting her credo for the album "I'm a warrior for some, and a princess for you" envoking both the attributes of strength and kindness.
Angels and Demons was recorded in the heyday of Sweet Motha' Child, Danny Bedrosian's 18 piece funk collective in which Elise was one of the backup singers. It features vocal duet between brother and sister, and great funky drumming from SMC drummer Chris Monty.
Shellshock was originally to be one of Danny's songs for his debut Som'n Fierce (if you haven't yet-check it out too!), but he decided to re-record it on Elise instead. It feature's Danny guesting on keyboards, and some great vocal arrangements. This song is in the same vein as Danny's "Incompetence" and "Long Division", in the R&B/Neo-Soul vein.
"E" is a great tune with Elise and drummer Chris Monty again, with beautiful keyboard accompaniment to Monty's visionary drumming prowress. It features Beatlesesque string arrangements as well, with more of Elise's provocative soprano harmonies.
That Little Feeling is a masterful all acapella piece featuring just Miss. Bedrosian in one of her best moments, recalling both gospel and country feel.
We Remember U is one of the densest tracks on the album, featuring brother Danny again on keyboards and arrangement, as well as a guest vocal. Dedicated to a close friend who died of a heroin overdose, We Remember U is a poignant look at the return of the drug to the Northeastern portion of the U.S. and the toll it is taking on the lives of the innocent youth. Set to a very Southern/Crunk beat, We Remember U is an important piece of the Moon Child Set, both Musically, and lyrically.
Dont Approach Me is best described as Alaskan Country. It features the undeniable guitar talents of Pfunk keyboardist Jerome Rodgers, and is a quiet, yet powerful journey through the beautifully breathtaking independence of Elise's life outside of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Monty, which is dedicated to the drummer of the same name, is the classical overture; the final piece in the puzzle of brilliance and ecclecticism that is MOON CHILD'S SWEET DALLIANCE. A beautiful instrumental number written and performed by Elise herself.
Not enough can be said of this special little work amidst much of the sameness in the music industry: Elise does little to stay "in touch"; in fact she does her best without knowing it, to stay "out of touch" both geographically and musically. In the world of the strict Pop people this idea would be insane, but it is Elise's intense difference and delivery that keeps her a step ahead without any of the overt consequences. Moon Child's Sweet Dalliance Indeed.
