Aisa Orfa is the up-and-coming piano & flute duo of James McKinney and Shu-ni Tsuo. These young virtuostic musicians bring their combined talent and experience as classicly trained musicians to the Avant Ward Jazz scene in a mix of traditional jazz and traditional Chinese and Chinese music and influence to make the unique brand of jazz music.

Shu-ni was trained in the traditional art of Ditzi (Chinese Bamboo Flute) flute playing in Taiwan and has matriculated throughout her professional carreer through Europe and finally to the U.S. where she recieved her Masters in Ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland, and finally settled in New York. This final move has allowed Shu-ni to collaberate with many Avant Ward Icons, including Butch Morris and Oliver Lake.

James McKinney, has been a Washington DC mainstay in the jazz community for over 15 years where he has gained recognition in the Avant Ward community and while playing with Neumenal Lingam & Thomas Stanley. Additionally, James has played with such well known artist as Oliver Lake, Hamiet Bluit, Donald Bird, James Moody, Kenny Burrel, Sendy Brown, Julie Dexter, Will Smith (The W.E.S. Group), Monique Miller, Vattell Cherry, Wayna, Origen, and Ayanna Gregory.

The duo met in 1999 while playing with Neumenal Lingam at the Vision Festival in NY and have been creating music together ever since.
