I hope "Dance of Grace" is good for your heart.

Ever since I've finished "Dance of Grace," I've been really in tune with how much better a recording can make you sound.

When I play in church on Sundays, or play at restaurants or retirement homes, I usually just feel like an average piano guy. I get the idea that I've come up with some pretty little melodies and people don't mind them. And if they look up from their dinner long enough to listen for one passage before returning to their dinner conversation, I'm happy.

But since the record has been done, I'm more able to see my piano playing like others do. I see it more from a receptive perspective. Like, right now, I'm sitting at my office at the church and listening to the CD play.

When I'm not behind the piano and I'm just sitting there listening to the CD, the songs seem more beautiful to me for some reason. It's like, all this time, I really didn't know that my songs were worth a hoot. Now they seem to kind of reach into the heart of life and mine the gold.

It reminds me that the melodies came from somewhere else. I feel arrogant taking credit for them, as if I worked so hard on them and utilized my college education to study, analyze, and perfect them.

I didn't.

I really just sat down and listened. And these melodies are what I heard.

As I sit and listen to the record, I'm aware that I really am just a partially cool guy from Oklahoma with average fashion sense and a corny sense of humor. I'm really not anything special.

God must have used my hands. That's the only explanation that I have.
