Overlay Music is harmonic, loop-based guitar. The music of Overlay Music Vol. 1 was composed, recorded and produced during a 6-month long Guitar Craft course (Tuning the Air At a Distance 2006) and was mastered by ambient recording artist Greg Davis.

Overlay Music is the result of a series of investigations into the principle of repetition as gradual change and active listening as a method of composition which took place over the period of six-months within the context of a Guitar Craft course. Working with multiple delay pedals and tone shaping devices, simple guitar lines become the basis for extended improvised compositions. The music on Overlay Music Vol. 1 is varied and includes pieces that could be described as ambient, harmonic and cinematic.

Jim Gomez is based in Portland, Oregon and is a member of the Portland Guitar Circle. Jim works with the Guitar Craft approach and the New Standard Tuning for guitar and the Alexander Technique. He has studied on Guitar Craft courses with Robert Fripp, Curt Golden and Tony Geballe and has worked and performed with the Seattle Guitar Circle and David Hykes of the Harmonic Choir.
