About Little Mascara
As of November 4th our debut album "Hot Pink and Black" is out and about in the world. Band history: We joined forces in the middle of the summer 2005 in Greensboro NC. Singer Jessie Derusha was born in Russia. She has been in the U.S. for about nine years and hasn't been kicked out yet but she's working on it. She writes mostly political protest songs and enjoys quiet evenings reading poetry, doing art projects and writing. On stage she is a wildcat possessed by demons. Fun stuff. She also wears fuzzy hats and boots that look like dead animals. Guitarist Chris Micca is pretty ancient he grew up in NJ and lived in Northern CA for years or so we think. He actually remembers some of the 80's. He likes funky old scooters and motorcycles and breeds show dogs. He can be kinda shady so don't loan him money, but he does write a mean rock song and does have a fabulous Chevy yellow Les Paul so he can't be all bad. He plays through a Ron Jordan modified Fender Super Reverb amp. Toaster aka David Seward is the drummer and he grew up in VA. He thinks he has played for some huge rock stars but he can't remember their names or what they look like. He kinda passes out a lot. He likes to record bands and rebuild old tube audio gear. It may be that he has inhaled too much solder. Some dude named Frank W. Pendleton is our bass player right now. Unfortunately in the past the bass players in Little Mascara have ended up dying in freakish accidents so we really don't need to add much about Frank at this time except that he is a very brave man to try and survive the curse. He is a former member of the underground band Judo boy. Jaysen Buterin plays cow bell and added percussion. He is the drummer for the fabulous Malamondos. He usually wears a kilt while playing and has been known to rip it off when excited. Jaysen beats a big hunkin hellish cow bell that makes you run screaming and get up and rock the casbah. So there you have it. Stay tuned...

Greensboro's Little Mascara exudes some kind of attitude. And it's
not because singer Jessie Derusha, the groups singer, likes to wear fuzzy hats and fur boots when she performs onstage.
Nope, just listen to the band's debut, "Hot Pink & Black."
That'll tell you everything.
"Hot Pink & Black," which was released last month, comes out
of the blocks like a local version of the New York Dolls ---loud, messy and full of raunchy, in your face lyrics that I could only dream about sneaking into a family newspaper.
Take "bitch." It's barely a minute long and is Derusha's
response to the Rolling Stones tune in which she makes the song about a stuck-up guy and a woman's reaction to his head games. The lyrics are priceless. Yet they're hard to hear because she chews on the words rather than spitting them out as she does so often in live performances.
Derusha does that through much of "Hot Pink & Black." But when
you can pick up what she sings it's quite a treat to hear a woman with a pixie-like soprano, similar to Blondie in her heyday, churning out words that could belong on a bathroom wall.
But chalk that up to the group's frenetic recording session. The musicians spent three days holed up in Bunny's Place --- the Jamestown house of drummer Dave Seward -- surviving on pizza and beer and recording until they were done.
The 10-tune disc clocks in at just less than 29 minutes, with three quirky radio-ad breaks from a thrift-store cassette Seward bought at the Outer Banks for 50 cents. It all makes for one fun disc. It's simply classic punk and raw rock, in which the roar of the band anchored by Chris Micca's buzz-saw guitar, will remind you over and over the role of the volume knob.
Play this sucker loud.
