Samba began singing professionally in Kinshasa, in the early 1970âs. In 1975, he moved with other musicians to Kampala, where they formed the group Les Kinois. From 1977 to 1997, he was based in Nairobi, first with Les Kinois, then with his Orchestra Virunga, which he founded in 1981.
FEET ON FIRE, recorded on the heels of Virungaâs 1991 European tour, captures the group at its best. Featurning a rich, live sound, this album has become legendary for hits like Vidongeâalways a dance floor-filler among East African audiencesâand Sungura, an adpation of the tortoise and the hare fable.
