Heartfelt, dusty, gritty, and sweat-soaked Americana Rock'n'roll.
7 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Roots Rock, ROCK: Americana
Details:
After the breakup of seminal New Jersey bar band Wide Load Joad, singer/songwriter/guitarist Mike June and bassist Mike Bates decided to put together a band that could take them to the next level. They reached out to jazz pianist Rob Babb, pedal steel veteran Bob Miano and classically trained drummer Rich Malloy and formed The Dirty Doves, a rootsy rock outfit with eclectic influences from Johnny Cash to the Velvet Underground. The band gelled quickly and after a few gigs, they rushed into the studio and began work on their first record, Crooked.
Released in December of 2002, Crooked is a seven -song rock and roll revelation. In the day and age of computer driven beats and synthetically enhanced singers, Crooked stands out as a raw, emotional journey through the heart of American rock and roll. With June's whisky-drenched voice and Miano's pedal steel wizardry leading the band, each song is a little detour into a different genre. From the Southside Johnny- Jersey feel of "New York Radio" to the Ronettes -inspired âÂÂsoul of "Crooked" to the driving southern-roots-rock of "Anywhere", each song is a small masterpiece adorned with great lyrics touching on subjects from drug abuse to long drives. As the Aquarian Music Weekly says, "This is realâ¦real rock and roll!" Get your hands on Crooked today!
