Proving yet again that the Bay Area can pump out great music as much as any of the big âbuzzâ cities (take that, New York!), brand new rockers Tempo No Tempoâs debut EP comes out crackling with both big hooks and dance-friendly beats. Equal parts rock machine and hot-shit dance band, this young foursome is sure to be a band to watch in 2006.
Formed in 2004 by four UC Berkeley students looking to become the soundtrack to the greatest house party youâve ever been to, Tempo No Tempo quickly gained recognition around the Bay Area, playing everywhere they possibly could (including a show at a barn!). Drawing influence from the Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Spoon and the Faint, the next year and a half saw them forming into an exciting live presence as well as capable songwriters. To capture their growing repertoire, the band recorded six songs in April of that year, laying all the tracks in their Berkeley, CA home.
The resulting self-released EP, âThe Get Down,â captures both the bandâs youthful exuberance and surprising maturity, with songs like âStaticâ and âA Different Weaponâ pulling hooks out of their unique blend of Strokes-like indie-skronk and disco-dancefloor aptitude. The EP has already earned them opening spots for acts such as Ima Robot, Persephoneâs Bees, French Toast and the Photo Atlas. Recently named one of the âtwenty best bands in the Bay Areaâ by LIVE 105-KITS, Tempo No Tempo joins the ranks of Scissors For Lefty, Birdmonster and Every Move A Picture in bringing the Bay Area into the national spotlight.
