When you experience the music of After The Fall you will be treated to a musical art form rich in melodic majesty, driven with the rhythm and power of its roots in classical rock, jazz fusion and the neo-progressive rock movementâ¦with an innovative and energetic character all its own. After the Fallâs music stands proudly apart from the prevalent fads and drearily predicable fare; showcasing its vision of original, meaningful songs, celebrating itâs diverse heritage of the best influences in thoughtful, inventive and challenging musical experiences, driven by the virtuosity and fire that they bring to their live and studio performance for over 20 years.
Their many years of commitment to their music have led them to international acclaim in the Progressive Music world. They have performed at several of the leading progressive venues in recent years, including the annual ProgDay festival in 1997 and 1999; the Orion Studio Concert Showcase series in Baltimore; the NewEARS progressive rock concert series in Lowell; and numerous other club and concert appearances in the Northeast over the recent years. Epics from their 1997 ProgDay show are presented in the official âProgDay Encoreâ box set, a limited edition 7-CD retrospective of the ProgDay Music Festival, providing audiences with an opportunity to obtain a live recording of some of the classic material from their five studio projects (so farâ¦!).
ATF has made numerous appearances on radio, webcasting and television over the years, with their music showcased by progressive broadcasters in the US, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Panama, Uruguay, the UK, France, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Australia, New Zealand and Japan⦠that we know of!
The development of After the Fallâs latest release, âKnowledgeâ (2005) was a monumental step forward for the band. Three years in the making, âKnowledgeâ is hailed as the pinnacle of ATFâs musical offerings, boasting over 80 minutes of music, built around three epic anthems. In 2006 ATF is commencing the âKnowledgeâ live tour, riding the wave of many favorable reviews and world-wide interest.
Like Progressive Music itself, After the Fall continues to grow and develop new insights. Originality and fire of spirit and performance remains their hallmark.
What the critics have to say about AFTER THE FALL:
âKnowledgeâ (2005)â
âConnecticut band After The Fall has taken a step forward with its Epic-laden fourth album, âKnowledgeâ⦠pull up an easy chair for 70âs-style proggy fixâ - John Collinge, Progression Magazine
âOne quick look at the song lengths should tell you the latest release from After the Fall is nothing short of an epic prog-rock statement. Instrumentally speaking⦠very impressive, thanks to the sinewy bass playing of Jeff Brewer, the fiery guitar work of Mark Alden Benson, the wonderful vintage keyboard sounds from Ken Archer and the nimble drum work courtesy of Rich Kornacki. This is a really strong prog rock album⦠if anyone thinks thereâs a lack of good progressive rock coming out of the USA these days, give this a tryâ â Sea of Tranquility progressive music journal
âAll in all this is a well written, excellently performed and produced album with excellent guitars and keyboards. For anyone who likes this musical style, I surely can recommend this albumâ â ProgGnosis progressive music journal
âThe Living Drum (2001)â
âThe band plays in a modern style yet pays homage to the greats of the past, namely ELP, Jethro Tull, Kansas, and perhaps a little Nektar. If you like long tracks with muscular guitar work, lots of keys, and fantasy tinged lyrics, you really canât go wrong here. Thereâs plenty of epics here, throw in a few impressive instrumental tracks, and youâve got a solid release from these US proggers⦠Four Starsâ - Pete Pardo, Sea of Tranquility journal
âIn a Safe Place (1997)â
â⦠a brilliant prog-rock album, with a great live feel, for its unpolished, clear production. Keywords⦠versatility and emotionâ¦sidesteps as blues-rock, jazz-rock, and reggae (!) are cut with a progressive knife, sharp as a razorâ â Henri Bos, Dutch Progressive Rock Page
âAfter the Fall defy definition. They are truly progressive, not restricted by the strictures place on What Is and What Isnât progressive music⦠instead they plow their own furrows and dare you to follow along in their wake. The music is diverse and variedâ¦This is a very good album⦠And I have been told that they are even better live!â â Frank Blades, Alternate View, UK
âAfter The Fall, which hails from Connecticut, is a polished band with loads of compositional savvy. They bring us an equally polished disc thatâs immediately accessible on its first spinâ â John Collinge, Progression Magazine
âThese guys call themselves neo-prog, but thatâs sometimes hard to believe when they belt out a 15 â minute instrumental. The vocalist reminds me of Greg Lake sometimes, but the lyrics are much better. Expect a powerhouse of prog from this talented trio!â - Peter Renfro, Progday Festival, Chapel Hill
After The Fall isâ¦
Mark Benson is the heart and soul of After the Fall. His powerful and expressive voice is the signature of ATF, and his songwriting reveals the personal and spiritual journey that makes these songs so real and vital. Mark is the bandâs guitarist, acclaimed for his virtuosity in both delivering screaming electric solos and deeply textured acoustic orchestrations.
Ken Archer, Markâs long-time friend and collaborator, is a keyboard wizard. In addition to writing much of ATFâs instrumental work, he brings his own fiery techniques as a soloist and orchestrator to the mix.
Jeff Brewer is a veteran performer and showman. His Rickenbacker bass lines cut through the sonic wall of ATFâs arrangements, bringing new intricacies to ATFs latest recordings, and energizing the live arrangements of the bandâs entire catalogue. A powerful vocalist, Jeffâs harmonies float above Markâs powerful melodies. Additionally, Jeff is a master percussionist â check out the percussion duos on âCame the Healerâ and âThe Living Drumâ, or live renditions of the fusion tune âMachu Picchuââ¦!
Rich Kornacki is a powerhouse performer, driving ATFâs rhythmic core. His energetic and innovative style adds the extra power that distinguishes ATFâs compositions with huge, dramatic impact.
