COUNTRY: Country Rock, ROCK: Americana
Details:
Imagine waking up one day and deciding you want to write songs. You always thought you could but after 47 years, there was scant evidence of it. So I started writing songsâ¦and the first 20 or so are really, predictably, bad! But I kept at it. Then, I hit on a line âI paid a High Price For a cheap thrillâ and a stronger song was born. I took it to a studio and went thru a brick wall of opinions to get what I wanted, but in one remarkable weekend we did it, and people flipped when they heard it. It was simple. It had lyrical ambiguities, but it had soul and I was off to the races! Armed with that confidence I became a writing fool. The next song starts to come together. I record it. It gets picked up at a song screening by a publisher and gets placed in the motion picture âArlington Roadâ and used in an episode of âSex and the Cityâ and âKing of the Hillâ. Thatâs me. The rest of the songs that followed were all a product of an idea, a riff, a melody, or a statement. Some are political, some serious, and some are just fun. Every one of them had some real challenge, and itâs like picking a lock to figure out how it goes. Sometimes this goes on for months or even years, but sometimes it happens in a matter of hours. When you do âget itâ it is an awesome feeling.
