The Doug & Jess Band are a fatherâdaughter writing and performing team located In Winnipeg. They write new songs in the old way; that is, there are times when you think you might be listening to a song by A. P. Carter and itâs a Jess Reimer song.

14 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Bluegrass, FOLK: Traditional Folk

Details:
The Doug and Jess Band are from Winnipeg where they have made an extraordinary splash in the folk and bluegrass scene. The Doug and Jess Band have all of the essential ingredients that combine into an excellent presentation of roots music in the Bluegrass, Folk and Old Time genres.

Listening to Doug and Jess it becomes instantly obvious that they have absorbed all the fine traditions of the music and instead of simply repeating what many others have done, they have taken the music to a new level by creating new modern works within the framework of the tradition, âItâs like new wine in old bottles,â says Winnipeg Folk Festival founder Mitch Podolak. âI donât know anybody who does this betterâ continued Podolak, âIt has the feel of the old timers like the Carter Family, but it's almost all brand new songs.â

Dougâs high lonesome voice and Jessâs straight strong alto blend together like peas in a pod. The instrumental virtuosity combined with great harmony singing combined with great songs really make the Doug and Jess Band stand out from the rest.

Doug and Jess Reimer are the father and daughter front folks of this four-piece band. Jeremy Hamm, who plays mandolin, soulful fiddle and harmony vocals; and five-string banjo player Tim Osmond who is as solid as a rock and holds the whole thing together, join them in the band.

Their newly released CD âSlave To This Worldâ features entirely original music half written by Doug and half written by Jess. Recorded by Norm Dugas in Winnipeg, mixed and mastered by Jim Nunally, includes cover art designed by Juno Award winning designer Michael Wrycraft.
