Five years ago, Nick Stargu embarked on a musical journey into Connecticut's open mic circuit - into the smelly mouth of greed, deception, adultery and slavery. He dressed in disguise and performed under an alias, DJ REAL. He emerged from this journey as a man. A man who had a lot of people on his mailing list. A man who was perpetually writing songs about girl's he never dated and people he never met.
Using his home studio, Nick Stargu began a recording project for his first solo album, âHappy Accidentâ. This album included a number of songs from his live act and ones he would never dare perform. People started taking notice of this "man" who would come to perform with his suitcase of costumes and CD player.
He began booking shows throughout New England. He has since played a number of great venues, including : The Iron Horse, Toad's Place, The Webster Theatre, Cafe Nine, The Space and many others. After performing for a year, Nick released his second album, MR REEUS. Three years ago, DJ REAL released the film - DJ REAL: THE MOVIE - a documentary chronicling his performance career.
Nick has since moved to California and is currently promoting the release of his newest album, Can you HEar mE SmilE?.
