Raised in Northern California, Darrelâs love for writing and performing music started very early. He began singing in church by age 7 and started playing trumpet at age 8.
Darrel also learned to play banjo as a child and his composing skills began to take root around age 12 while camping with family and friends (he wrote a song using everyoneâs nicknames).

By the age of 16, Darrel played had the privilege of playing his trumpet while touring Europe with a national honor band. It was a profound experience for this teenager to perform in Carnegie Hall in New York City and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. Darrel then earned a Bachelorâs Degree in Music Education from the University of the Pacificâs Conservatory of Music. He earned his Masterâs Degree in Conducting from California State University, Sacramento and again toured Europe with their Chamber Choir.

Darrel has led worship in various church ministries since 1990, most recently serving as Director of Celebration Arts at Carson Valley Christian Center in Minden, Nevada (in northern Nevada in the foothills of Lake Tahoe). Darrel is married to Karen, his wife of 20+ years and they have 4 children.
