Details:
Dan Neal's EP release "Ballgame" combines two of his biggest passions---music and baseball. This EP is a follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut "When The Big Picture Fades", a full cd recorded in LA with Lucinda Williams band. Rootstime Magazine says "Neal reminds us of Tom Petty, Richard Thompson or a young Elvis Costello". Like those artists, Neal tends toward lyrics with substance and exhibits a storytellers talent for capturing ones interest. World Beat Magazine writes that Neal's songs are "like a grown man's prayer, full of adult observations based on hard experience....He reminds us of a Tom Petty or Bob Dylan". With "Ballgame", Neal writes about his love of baseball and particularly the Boston Red Sox using the New York Yankees as their foil, and why not given the history of these two clubs. He writes "You can have your Bambino and Joltin' Joe, me I'll settle for Ted. You used to talk about a curse, now the curse is dead". Baseball fans will have no difficulty following Neal's references to events both recent and historical and are certain to appreciate the clever way he elaborates on them. But Ballgame isn't just a song for Red Sox fans---anybody with a fondness for baseball, for that matter, anybody with a fondness for a catchy rock tune in the vein of Credence Clearwater will find themselves toe tapping and singing along with Ballgame. The EP also includes "Fire Under My Feet", a bluesy tune from the Lucinda Williams session that received national radio airplay. Neal is scheduled to record his follow-up cd in Nashville later in 2006. Based on the quality of his material to date, we are anxious to see what he comes up with next.
