Details:
âWhile in the process of recording this music, I had a dream in which the title of the recording, âSparks from the 7 Worldsâ was given to me. At first I had no idea what it meant, but upon deeper reflection I realized itâs meaning. During the process of learning this music, I had been reading about Andres Segovia. Segovia has been quoted as saying that he would work for weeks on a single passage, polishing it âuntil it sparklesâ. My dream combines the idea of âsparklesâ with the seven notes (worlds) in the musical scale. One of my artistic goals is to create a wide variety of tone color on the guitar. In this way, every note can be thought of as possessing a âworld of expressive possibilitiesâ. The CD cover depicts the seven worlds, each sparkling with the light of the sun in a different way. The worlds are placed on five lines representing the musical staff. The solar system is a symbol of something ancient, beautiful and timeless, characteristics it shares with these classical guitar masterpieces.â
This recording is a collection of the essential guitar repertoire, representing styles from the Renaissance through the 20th century. Therefore, it is an invaluable resource for guitar students as well as a sublime listening experience for all music lovers. As a bonus, the CD includes a historical booklet with information on the composers and the history of the classical guitar.
Steve Eckels is a solo guitar performer who blends traditional American folk songs with his background in Jazz and Classical music to create a unique style and expansive repertoire.
Steve got his first guitar in 1965 at the age of ten, and hasnât stopped playing since. He received a Bachelor's Degree in guitar from Berklee College of Music and a Master's Degree from New England Conservatory. He holds a music education certification from the state of Montana, and currently teaches a high school guitar program in northwest Montana.
Steve is the author of numerous guitar books and recordings for MEL BAY publications. His guitar articles have been featured in "Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine", "Teaching Music" (MENC), "Teaching Guitar" (MEL BAY), and "Guitar Sessions" (MEL BAY).
Steve Eckelsâ concert repertoire spans classical masterpieces such as Bach, Albeniz and Tarrega to virtuoso solo guitar arrangements of American traditional music such as blues, gospel, cowboy, Stephen Foster and others. He performs for special community events where his repertoire also includes pop, country, jazz and Latin American music.
