The Muirhead Quartet are part of the new voice of Cape Town and South African jazz. The band was born in 2007 and played the Cape Town International Jazz Festival the same year. Parallel ideas of swing and funk found their mark in the creation of something else entirely.

Being slightly angular and funky, the Muirhead Quartet was amazed to find itself booked for two years at a sidewalk coffee shop. It was here, on the streets of Stellenbosch, that the character and personality of the music and musicians was unleashed. Thanks to the great musicians involved there was always something fresh and new being expressed. It was decided that we should go see what might happen in a recording studio. The result is a double-CD of original material in every sense of the word.

We decided to record, engineer, mix and master to the best standards. It is with deep gratitude that I thank the many people involved - they gave generously of their time and skills, far and above the call of duty.
