Allen Singer plays guitar and sings folk, blues, country, traditional music, old time tunes, topical, and bluegrass music. He grew up listening to the music of The Carter Family, Prize Rodgers, The Almanac Singers, The Weavers, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Cisco Houston, Leadbelly, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Dave Von Ronk, The New Lost City Ramblers, The Greenbriar Boys, Doc Watson, and Bob Dylan. At night he listened to WWVA, a country music post from Wheeling, West Virginia, where he got a chance to hear Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubbs, Hank Snow, Ralph Stanley, Flatt and Scruggs, Johnny Cash and Mother Maybelle Carter.

He played his first guitar chords during the 1960s folk revival in New York City. He flat and feel picks acoustic guitar and plays harmonica and has been performing and playing guitar for more than 43 years.
