About Gillie
He was born in Tromsø in 1946 and now he is living in Langesund. He started his career as a sailor when he was 15, and it was during his time at sea he discovered the world of Country music.
He became a big fan of guys like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. The style was Outlaw Country and Gillie decided to join a band. At first he started out as a musician, he played guitar and accordion.
Then he started his own band. He called it Gillie and The Crew and they recorded a LP witch sold great in Norway. They played as the warm up band for Willie Nelson in 1996. And actually got better reviews in the media than Willie Nelson himself. A funny story: Willie Nelson came to play that night and Gillie was standing on the stage, singing. Willie did not see him, he could only hear him and he got really upset because no one had told him that his good friend Waylon Jennings was there!! Gillie sounds much a like Mr Jennings ï
The years passed by and Gillie continued playing around in bars and pubs. He has played in almost every Country music festival in Norway and many people think that if Gillie is not playing at the festivals one year, its not the real deal..!
Hes been playing around the last years either with a band, trio or alone with his guitar.
He recorded a cd as a tribute to his big idol, Waylon Jennings in 2003.
In 2004 he got a Management, and since they already had been to Nashville with other artists and had made connections there, they delivered Gillies first album ( MY TRIBUTE TO WAYLON JENNINGS) to the Legendary producer and good friend of MGH Management, Mr. Jim Pierce. www.jimpierce.net
He really liked what he heard, and so they raised the money, sat up the recording agreement and then in June this year he went to Nashville with his Manager, Gunn-Heidi Andersen and the president of the label Grenland Music Productions Magne Haugen, and his good friend and guitarist Ole Bjørn Berge to record the album, Keep on Keeping on.
The 4 of them stayed in Nashville for 4 weeks.
Gillie had been to Nashville before in 1979 while he was working on a cargo ship. He visited the Grand Ole Opry and he got backstage to meet some of the artists.
He also performed at a few bars around and in Nashville with great response.
Since then his biggest dream was to go back to Nashville and record an album. And now Hes done it!
The 11th of August this year another huge thing happened in Gillies life. His daughter, Elisabeth, gave birth to Gillies first grand daughter, Christina. Family is the most important thing in Gillies life.
Hes now beeing played at radio stations all over the world and climbing the charts. Here in Norway hes been on the top of the sales lists twice. And his cd is selling very well. He will now also get launched in USA where he is already beeing played at different radio stations.
