lo galluccio released spell on you following the critical acclaim of her first solo record, on the knitting factory label, titled being visited. spell is a quirky and beautiful collection of jazz standards, original blues, spirituals and collaborations with players from new york and boston. it features feel like, a rock blues collaboration with slide guitar wizard, dave tronzo, an eerie version of the screaming jay hawkins tune, i put a spell on you, with smashing glasses and wicked laughter, a gospel-inflected que sera sera and an avant rock song created with jim pugliese of soultronix (go is my co-pilot, shrek) called back porch.
lo's performed in boston at house of blues, the zeitgeist gallery and the acton jazz cafe. her most recent release is a poetry collection called hot rain, published by singing bone press for which she has given performances and readings at mad poet's cafe in warwick, borders book store at downtown crossing, all asia in cambridge, the out of the blue gallery in cambridge and toast lounge in somerville. visit her website at www.logalluccio .com for more complete bio information.

"at the onset of spell on you, lo galluccio will remind you of one, than sound like the other. after a little bit of time put into this disc, the listener realizes that galluccio is indeed her own artist, not trying to emulate or imitate. galluccio slinks into her tunes in a diamanda galas-esque style. while lo does not sound as demonically possessed as galas, she does have some of the same flavor. in terms of vocal timbre, the name vanessa williams springs instantly to mind when describing the breathy little girl voice of lo galluccio. it can be gathered from the tracks on this record that "a thousand miles" would not be galluccio's style. galluccio is not simply a darker vanessa or a more accessible diamanda, she could be regarded as a combination and/or better version of each of the two on spell on you.
