Details:
San Diego, California, Dublin-born Eamon Carroll has been entertaining audiences in Irish pubs and at private parties, special occasions, and corporate functions for over 30 years. Eamonâs unique interpretation of traditional Irish ballads and engaging sing-along favorites makes him a hit with audiences of all ages.
Eamon is the resident entertainer at The Field, San Diegoâs premier Irish pub in the heart of the historic downtown Gaslamp District and plays at other venues around San Diego and throughout Europe. He is available for private functions including weddings, funerals, private parties, corporate events and other occasions where a âtouch of Irishâ promises to enhance the experience.
A proud Dubliner, Eamon was born and grew up on the âSouth-sideâ in Dundrum (read more).
He got his start in the music business as a member of the trio âThe Gypseesâ with fellow group members Tom Robinson and Maurice McCarthy. Their first paying gig was at âThe Purty Kitchenâ in Dun Laoghaire on the outskirts of Dublinâthey earned a whopping £10 between them! In the early 70âs, Eamon and Maurice formed a new group, âKellyâs Heroesâ with Kyran Geraghty. The trio played throughout Ireland, France and Germany for Bord Failte (the Irish Tourist Board) and were hugely popular on the vibrant Dublin cabaret scene of the 70âs, playing at the Braemor Rooms for many years.
Several appearances on Thames Televisionâs âOpportunity Knocksâ in the U.K. led to an opportunity to record with Jeff Love and his 35-piece âManuel of the Mountainsâ orchestra at EMIâs Abbey Roads studios where the Beatles did their early recordings.
Kellyâs Heroes also played in the U.S., including a trip to St. Louis and touring New England with the Irish comedian Hal Roach where a stop in Providence, Rhode Island found them the recipients of the âFreedom of the Cityâ honour. Eamon left Kellyâs Heroes and 1982 and did not play professionally again until he landed in San Diego, California in 1984.
San Diego: The First Time Around
Eamon arrived in California in 1984 and formed a duo with gifted musician Brian Baynes. The two played the local Irish circuit appearing regularly at Rosie OâGradyâs, the Blarney Stone in Clairemont, and the Blarney Stone Two in La Mesa. During this time in San Diego, Eamon learned to play the guitar, helped tremendously by the tutelage of Brian, and also met San Diego native Linda.
Ireland Beckons
His two beautiful daughters and the Irish craic lured Eamon back to Dublin in 1988 where he continued performing, this time as a solo act. He became a fixture on the Dublin pub scene, playing regularly at the Auld Dubliner in the popular tourist destination Temple Bar, at the Guinness Brewery, on the Jonathan Swift ferry between Dublin and Holyhead in Wales, and at venues throughout Europe including in Germany, Spain, France, England and Wales. He ran discos, performed at weddings and other special occasions and started a successful music agency business, Pamona Promotions.
In 1996, Eamon released his first solo CD, âAutumn Shades of Ireland.â
San Diego: The Second Time Around
The new millennium and San Diego beckoned once again. Eamon began spending time in California and in 2001, he and Linda finally tied the knot (17 years after they first met!). They bought a home in Rancho Bernardo and Eamon has since reestablished himself on the music scene in Southern California. Youâll find him Tuesday-Thursdays evenings at The Field in the heart of the Gaslamp in downtown San Diego.
Eamon travels to Ireland as often as possible to visit his now grown daughters Pamela and Fiona, and his new grandson Daniel who was born in September 2009. While in Europe, youâll he performs at the Auld Dubliner in Temple Bar and at the Dubliner in Stuttgart.
In 2009, he released his second CD, âOld Irish Chestnutsâ produced by good friend and former musical partner Brian Baynes.
