Pirate's Booty is the latest installment to Boston based composer/pianist Brian Friedland's "Household Items" song series and his first multimedia work. Using a package of the popular snack Pirate's Booty Aged White Cheddar Rice and Corn Puffs as musical and artistic inspiration, the composition combines the stunning artwork of Heidi Aispuro and the photographic and media savvy Stephanie Golas with 10 minutes of music for voice, strings, and piano. Together, they tell stories of Pirate's on the quest for the perfect snack, a tragic personal addiction, and the life transforming potential of the puffs

Utilizing texts from items that are typically found in the home, "Household Items" creates atmospheres that comically enhance the productâs claims or give it a new spin. The music is a commentary on the ridiculous nature of advertising claims, warning labels, ingredient lists, and instructional manuals, expressed through an eclectic mixture of styles that range from Irish jigs to Gospel anthems. It addresses nearly all tangible aspects of domestic life including the kitchen, bathroom, garage, and wine cellar. Angela Vicente, a vocalist who is equally at home in jazz, pop, and classical settings, brings a wide palette of expression to apply to the myriad subtleties of commercial products.
