From C86 to feedbacked noise pop, Liverpool's Hellfire Sermons plough their lonely furrow through the hidden channels of indie pop.
19 MP3 Songs
POP: New Wave, ROCK: Punk
Details:
Hellfire Sermons, scratchy indie-folk noise-pop band from Liverpool, UK.
Hellfire Sermons released a series of critically acclaimed 7" singles in the 1980s and 1990s on the Esurient and Dishy record labels, selling out of their limited pressings all too quickly. Fans included Bob Stanley of St Etienne and Richey Edwards of Manic Street Preachers. 'Hymns Ancient and Modern' collects together all their singles, from the C86-style 'Freak Storm' with its guitars reminiscent of REM or The Smiths to the blood-curdling 'Sarasine', compared by many to The Pixies or Josef K. Also included are the band's flexi-disc releases from various obscure indie-pop fanzines and cassette tape only releases.
Hellfire Sermons have undergone something of a revival recently with the release of 'Hymns Ancient and Modern' to favourable reviews and the band continue to write and rehearse in Liverpool. New releases are planned.
