Details:
Hi, Iâm Jimmy Abraham,
I was born in Chigago, grew up in Goodwell, in the heart of the Oklahoma Panhandle, in Austin, Texas, in Albuquerque and in Malagana de Bolivar, Colombia.
As a long-time part-time musician, I played with Stray Dog (a 70âs rock band, songwriting and drinking club), Lawyers, Guns, and Money (a local country rock band), and The Fiasco Bros. Bluegrass Band. My songwriting influences include early country and country blues players, songs from the folk scare of the 60âs, and an occasional nod toward Luis Bonfa or Homer and Jethro.
I released my second CD, âSongwriterâs Notebook, Vol. 2â in 2006. (If you call the first one "Volume 1", you're kinda locked into "Volume 2.")
My folk ballad âHayes Hotelâ won Best New Bluegrass Song honors at the 2001 Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas. In 2005 âCreepinâ Waysâ, which is on Vol. 2, won in the Blues category. âDoinâ the Vooley-Vooâ from Vol. 1 was nominated for an award from JustPlainFolks this year.
My songs have been covered by Elliottâs Ramblers, the Stucco Sisters, and the Duke City Swampcoolers, as well as Dollars, Taxes from Dallas, and the Canote Brothers from Seattle.
These unsolicited comments came back from DJâs who played âSongwriterâs Notebook Volume 1â:
â¦My favorite singer-songwriter CD of 2001!
The songs are great, with very memorable stories and tunes.
Peter Schwarz, Folk Dept. KKUP, Cupertino, CA
â¦songs that are to the point with a great melody.
I am definitely going to spin your tunes.
Dan Alloway, âFolk Furyâ KTEP El Paso, TX
Thanks, and I hope you enjoy the tunes,
Jimmy Abraham
