Details:
Capathia Jenkins, who received rave reviews for her show-stopping performance in the 2006 Broadway hit "Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me," and award-winning composer/performer Louis Rosen are delighted to announce the launch of their debut CD, CAPATHIA JENKINS AND LOUIS ROSEN: SOUTH SIDE STORIES. Inspired by Rosenâs experiences growing up on the south side of Chicago, SOUTH SIDE STORIES is a moving collection of songs about youth, coming-of-age, and experience.

CAPATHIA JENKINS AND LOUIS ROSEN: SOUTH SIDE STORIES received critical acclaim during its world premiere at the Steppenwolf Theater in December 2005. Hedy Weiss of The Chicago Sun-Times declared it âmagicalâ¦(a) nostalgic, romantic, emotionally charged song cycle.â Kerry Reid of the Chicago Tribune called the performance âa fine and sometimes somber portrait of heartbreak and survival, joy and its absence, and love that endures even when the objects of that love are long vanished.â

The release of CAPATHIA JENKINS AND LOUIS ROSEN: SOUTH SIDE STORIES is also being celebrated with a three-show engagement at The Public Theater's Joe's Pub, October 29th, November 5th and 12th. Visit www.joespub.com for more information.

SOUTH SIDE STORIES marks Jenkins and Rosenâs third project together. They launched their collaboration in March 2005 with sold-out engagements of their acclaimed TWELVE SONGS ON POEMS BY MAYA ANGELOU at Joeâs Pub. The success of their debut led to repeat performances at celebrated venues in New York and throughout the country, including Birdland and the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan, The Old Stone House in Brooklyn, and the legendary Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago.

In June of 2006, Capathia and Louis appeared in concert at the prestigious Great Hall of Cooper Union with special guest vocalist, Alton Fitzgerald White. Together they offered yet another world-premiere, Louis' fourteen-song DREAM SUITE: SONGS IN JAZZ AND BLUES, on poems by Langston Hughes.

Jenkins and Rosen's next project is GIOVANNI SONGS, with words by the famed African-American poet, Nikki Giovanni, currently scheduled to debut in 2007.

CAPATHIA JENKINS received rave reviews for her performance in the new Broadway hit "Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me," and has also starred in Broadway productions of "Caroline, Or Change," "The Civil War," and Bacharach and Davidâs "The Look of Love." She has appeared in numerous Off-Broadway productions, including the recent revival of "Godspell."
Her national and European tours include "Dreamgirls,""Bubblinâ BrownSugar," "Sophisticated Rhythms," and "Uptown Saturday Night."

Television credits include "The Practice," "Law & Order," "Law & Order: SVU," "Sopranos," "100 Centre Street," "Third Watch," "Corn," "Mari X," "Americaâs Most Wanted," "The Princess and the Black-eyed Pea," "After Hours" and "Variety Club." Capathia can also be heard on the film soundtracks of Chicago and Legally Blonde 2.

LOUIS ROSEN's songs and theater music have been performed in concert halls, cabarets, and theaters in New York and around the country. Among his many scores are the music theater pieces "Book of the Night," (Chicago's Goodman Theater; music and co-lyrics); "A Childâs Garden" (off-Broadway; music and co-libretto); and the forthcoming adaptation of John Steinbeck's "The Pearl" (music). His song cycles include "Twelve Songs on Poems by Maya Angelou;" "Dream Suite: Songs in Jazz and Blues," on words by Langston Hughes (both composed for Ms. Jenkins); and "It Is Still Dark: Songs of Exile," on words by Celso Gonzalez-Falla.

The author of "The South Side: The Racial Transformation of an American Neighborhood," Rosen was recently awarded a 2005-2006 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in Music Composition. He has also been the recipient of awards and grants from the NEA, ASCAP, the Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Musical Theater Foundation, the Puffin Foundation and the Sloan Foundation among others.
