psychedelic damaged folk-tinged blues & spirituals
12 MP3 Songs
BLUES: Delta Style, COUNTRY: Country Blues
Details:
The Low-Country Messiahs is the stage and recording name for the post-blues ensemble founded by multi-instrumentalist Robert Hamilton. Hamilton was formerly with Sub Pop recording artist Green Magnet School. Green Magnet School recorded three albums (including the acclaimed 'Blood Music'), and toured the U.S. extensively, earning several music award nominations and international press.
The Boston Herald writes, "The Low-Country Messiahs don't sound like your typical bar band. Of course if your typical bar is nestled in Mississippi hill country, then perhaps they would fit right in ... [they] find their muse in the haunting sounds of cult juke joint favorites such as Junior Kimbrough and the raw, unschooled sounds of Robert Pete Williams ... but the Low-Country Messiahs aim for a quieter, more ominous sound ... raw ... plaintive ... brooding, atmospheric tunes."
Rejecting derivative and clichéd blues trappings in favor of experimental textures and non-traditional arrangements, the Low-Country Messiahs offer a dark and menacing mix of pre-War Delta blues slide guitar and avant-garde instrumental soundscapes, all rooted lyrically in traditional African-American spirituals.
'Biscuit Palace' is a slow-burn of ramshackle singing, fluid guitar picking, and eerie sonics, evoking fever dream images of lost alleys, cold cellars, and low-rent bars.
