In its most basic sense, the name Little Egypt represents Brooklyn, USA (a.k.a. the Planet). In a broader interpretation, the name Little Egypt signifies a return to traditional storytelling and artistic expressions in order to preserve one's culture as well as building for the benefit of the community.
Group members include Visual Poetics, Forge, Taajwar, Bravestar and Khordz-255. Sometimes referred to as the L.E. Apostles, each member of Little Egypt maintains a different outlook on Hip-Hop, the world, and life in general.
These differences formulate the complex nature of the group yet come together and blend (harmoniously) broadening their mass appeal as a whole. Each member of Little Egypt is able to maintain their own identity and unique perspective on every track. This enables listeners to easily distinguish one group member from another and select their personal favorite in the process.
Lyrical topics range from the deepest, thought provoking street anthems to metaphor filled battle-rhymes for the underground listeners. Musical influences for Little Egypt's production come from all points on the globe. The chief producer; Visual Poetics is primarily a Hip-Hop fan but listens to and collects music from all genres. All group members are avid music fans first and foremost (two being former DJs). This keeps the 'ears' of the group in tune with the current music trends. The group's overwhelming sense of individuality helps to prevent them from sounding like anyone (or nowadays everyone) else and keeps Little Egypt looking for new paths for Hip-Hop fans to follow.
The group started gaining notoriety in 1995 performing in legendary venues like The Nuyorican Poets Cafe (NYC), SOBs (NYC) and State of the Union (DC). Last year, Little Egypt had the priviledge of headlining a tour through Poland, their first international appearance. Following their 'promote yourself through performances' philosophy, L.E. has also performed in Canada and Brazil. They plan to continue and expand their performance schedules and are currently planning a return to Europe and South America, a tour through Australia as well as the south and midwestern United States for 2002.
Building on the success of their debut release, Sunrise, Little Egypt completed their first full length album, Straight Out the Sands, in February 2002. They are currently scheduled to release several other projects (overseas and domestic) this year.
