Details:
8-String guitarist Todd Mussman brings a unique and impressive set of skills to the jazz genre. Using his 8-string guitar, Mussman is able to simultaneously perform the bassline and the guitar part in a seemingly effortless manner. His skillful execution of the two musical lines leaves the listener no hint that they are hearing anything other than two separate players. Mussman's technical skill is matched by the beauty and expressiveness of his music.

In addition to being a skilled performer, Mussman is also a gifted composer and arranger. His original works reflect a blend of jazz, pop, and Latin styles, that appeal to a wide range of listeners.

A Pittsburgh native, Mussman attended Duquesne University, where he studied jazz guitar with Tim Bedner and Joe Negri(famed jazz guitarist and "Handyman Negri" on the tv show "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood").

Mussman has recently released "File Under Jazz", a new cd containing 7 original works and one cover tune(available at cdbaby). Joe Negri says about Mussman's new release: "Todd Mussman is definitely breaking new ground for the jazz guitar. 8 strings - a smooth bassline supporting chords and single note melodic lines - all presented in a tasty jazz format."

"A master of the 8-string guitar with a unique ability to combine bass and lead playing, Pittsburgh native Todd Mussman puts his fretboard ability to good use on his 2005 cd File Under Jazz. Filled with interesting chording and top notch improvisation, File Under Jazz is a fine intro to Mussman's sound"- Robert Silverstein, 20th Century Guitar Magazine

"At only 21 years old, Mussman is a performer of rare accomplishment. His playing is truly incredible and his compositional skills will only grow with time. File Under Jazz is a valuable document of an artist who is hopefully only at the beginning of a very fine career. Todd Mussman is definitely an artist worth keeping an eye on". - Stephen Latessa, ALL ABOUT JAZZ

As well as being available on CDbaby, File Under Jazz is also available at several Pittsburgh locations of Border's Books and Music, as well as other local Pittsburgh stores. It has also become available at a music store chain in Japan called Applejam Music.

Mussman performs in a variety of venues including clubs, restaurants, and parties. Mussman also offers guitar and bass lessons to private students at Mannella Guitars in Pittsburgh.

Todd Mussman has been playing the guitar since he was 12 years old. By the time he was 16 he had released his first cd, began playing gigs, started giving guitar& bass lessons, and was attending Duquesne University with a jazz guitar scholarship. Mussman is also the 2004 Guitarmageddon district champion. Although he is only 21 years old, Todd Mussman plays the 8-sring guitar with the skill and sophistication of someone twice his age.
