Hard rockin', hard drinkin, hard loving twang rock.

13 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Roots Rock, COUNTRY: Country Rock

Details:
Hard-rockin', twang-laden sincerity, smart songs and simpatico playing push Portland's' Moonshine Hangover past the alt-country also-rans on the bands' sophomore disc, Thicket. An impeccable taste in collaborators ropes in the cream of the Portland crop: Marilee Hord's fiddle, Paul Brainard's steel guitars, David Lipkind's harmonica and Lewi Longmire's organ all adorn tracks here. And if the bands songwriting continues to improve along these lines, we'll soon have our own local Drive-By Trucking franchise.

-- Willamette Week

Some Alt-country acts just don't get it. They patronizingly parody the genre's conventions insert self-conscious nods to anachronistic albums and don garish, gimmicky duds. On the other hand, the beer-drinkers and hell-raisers in Moonshine Hangover take their debt to the authentic outlaw country seriously. This Portland quartet's turbo-twang barn-burners scorch the stage like a flaming tractor careening trough crops, slapping off any sissy ironic trucker hats within a cornfields radius. This gig marks the release of Moonshine Hangover's latest disc Thicket, which sounds surprisingly crisp given the scores of alcohol references its lyrics contain.

-- Portland Mercury
