Details:
The Moksha Ensemble creates instrumental world fusion as a five piece musical unit. The group began when Kirk Bishop(guitar) met Ojas Joshi(tabla) in the winter of 2001. 'Moksha', the sanskrit word for 'liberation', seemed an ideal label for the music which was to embrace the freedom of improvisation in harmony with classical composition. Their musical chemistry attracted the attention of John Calverley, who offered his magical violin services. By the summer of 2002, the beginning of a true ensemble had taken root. Soon after, the bass chair was solidified by the addition of Travis Short. The masterful drumming of Dennis Boisvert rounded out the rhythm section and within a few weeks the band made its' public debut. This show was captured on a self-produced demo cd, 'Live'.

The 'Lady Sun' cd is a culmination of the groups' first year as an ensemble and is also its' first studio offering. Recording was finished in December of 2003 at '1000 Decibals' with engineer David Shepherd (black i productions). The disc was mastered by Michael Fossenkemper at Turtletone Studio in late March, pressed, and released in April, 2004. 'Lady Sun' blends the ethnic flavors of the east (both far and middle) with the western Jazz and classical mediums to achieve a singular sound that embraces both meditation and movement. The addition of Bob Tildesley on muted trumpet and John Towill on Didgeridoo adds extra magic to the final tracks and provides a glimpse of endless future guest possibilities. The musical beauty is matched by the stylish pen and vision of Mateusz Odrobny (Neural Net Studios); whose artwork graces our cd and provides a visual balance to Moksha's unique sound.
